GROW BACKYARD FOOD - it Saves $$$$$$

The process of creating a food forest, also known as a forest garden, typically involves several steps. A food forest is a type of agroforestry system that combines the principles of permaculture and ecological design to create a diverse, multi-layered planting of edible and useful plants.

The first step in creating a food forest is to choose a suitable location and prepare the site for planting. This may involve conducting a site assessment to determine the soil type and fertility, the sunlight exposure, the available water resources, and any potential hazards or challenges. The site may then be cleared of any existing vegetation and prepared for planting by tilling the soil and adding organic matter, such as compost or manure, to improve its fertility and structure.

Once the site is prepared, the next step is to design the food forest by selecting the appropriate plant species and arranging them in a way that creates a diverse, multi-layered planting. This may involve choosing a mix of trees, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables that are well-suited to the local climate and soil conditions, and that can provide a range of edible and useful products. The plants may be arranged in layers, with tall trees at the top, smaller trees and shrubs in the middle, and herbs and groundcovers at the bottom.

After the design is complete, the next step is to plant the food forest. This may involve planting seedlings or transplanting mature plants, and taking care to properly space the plants and provide them with adequate water and other resources. Once the plants are established, the food forest may be managed by mulching, pruning, and controlling weeds and pests to maintain its health and productivity. Over time, the food forest will develop into a self-sustaining ecosystem that provides a diverse range of edible and useful products.
